Ventilation fans are also referred to as whole house fans.
These fans pull outside air into a building and circulate it around
the interior. They are most commonly installed and used in residential
areas. When combined with other cooling appliances, like ceiling fans
and window or portable air conditioners, ventilation fans can work very
well at cooling a home in any climate.
One
of the most obvious ways that a ventilation fan can use too much electricity
is if it is too small for the building or home that it is installed
at. Fans that are too small will work extra hard to circulate air, which
in turn causes a rise in cooling costs. To reduce these cooling costs
it is essential that the right sized fan is used and that it is installed
properly.
Solar
powered ventilation fans are also making an appearance
on the retail market today. These fans use the power from the sun to
function properly. There are complete ventilation systems and single
attic fans that are available for purchase and use. Such ventilation
fans make great use of a renewable energy source, which is a perfect
way to cut electricity costs during the summer.
Some property owners may also use the existing components
of their centralized heating system as a ventilation fan during the
summer months, but this does require some modifications that will need
to be completed by a knowledgeable person or heating and air conditioning
professional. If modified correctly, a centralized fan can be an energy
saver as well.
